Activities to Keep You Active During This Time of Social distancing

As we stand together during this time of social distancing, I want to reach out and share with you creative ways to keep you and your family healthy, happy and entertained.  We have all needed to make changes to our day to day life, which for many has been unsettling. What was once normal, may now be foreign. Routines that at one point were unnoticed, are now missed.  Because change is not always easy, we must now transition to a different kind of normalcy with openness, receptivity and curiosity.

There are many things you can start doing today to embrace this transitional period.  Remember, this will not last forever so take time to appreciate the things that you may have once taken for granted. Take a look below and challenge yourself to try a few of these activities:

Outdoors:

  • Take a walk, run or a hike outside (while practicing social distancing - 6 ft apart)

  • Begin your spring gardening (this is the perfect time!)

  • Chalk up your driveway with fun quotes/memes

  • Get some yard work done

  • Sit outside and catch the breeze

  • Bird watching

  • Bicycling

Online/Virtual:

  • Give virtual yoga a try

  • Learn a new language

  • Take a virtual museum tour

  • Connect with family, friends, colleagues through apps like facetime, whatsapp, zoom, skype

  • Have a virtual dance party with your friends

  • Learn something new from youtube or an educational site

  • Watch a movie together with a friend

  • Join your colleagues for virtual happy hour

  • Play an online game

In home:

  • Spring cleaning

  • Read a good book

  • Watch a movie from beginning to end

  • Put together a large puzzle

  • Play a board game

  • Have a spa day

  • Create a vision board

  • Teach your pet a new trick

  • Prepare a new meal

  • Paint a room

  • Redecorate a room


Family Activities:

  • Choose a day to have game night

  • Take a walk together

  • Reflect back on funny memories

  • Try a new recipe together

  • Color together

  • Film a video 

  • Write your very own story

  • Create a vegetable or herb garden

  • Do a puzzle together

  • Arrange a scavenger hunt either in your home or in your yard

  • Have a family movie night with popcorn and other movie treats

  • Watch a Broadway show from your own home
